Let’s start with a simple fact. There is a retirement crisis in America, and the statistics are grim. According to the Center for Retirement Research, 62% of private sector employees had a defined benefit pension plan in 1983. In 2010, that number was 19%. Workers didn’t have to figure out the mechanics of saving, investing and then distributing their income during retirement. Their pension plan did this for them.
